Will Smeed’s Success in “The Hundred”

HCL Bank House have been delighted to be able to support the journey of the incredibly talented cricketer, Will Smeed, throughout 2020/21.

It’s been a busy summer so far for Will. Now a regular in the T20 side for Somerset, he has contributed significantly to their qualification for a home quarter-final in ‘The Blast’. He sits currently at second in the run totals, behind New Zealand international Devon Conway.

Will’s fantastic T20 campaign earnt him a spot in the Birmingham Phoenix team for the inaugural 100-ball competition, ‘The Hundred’, making Will the youngest player in the competition!

Becoming of the entertainer he is, Will put on an incredible showcase of his abilities in his first game against the Trent Rockets. In front of a packed Edgbaston stadium, he smashed 36 off 13 balls live on Sky Sports! He followed this up with a score of 45 against Oval Invincibles.

However, it was in his third game against Welsh Fire when the young cricketer had his real ‘coming-of-age’ moment. Striking up a lethal partnership with Moeen Ali in his third game against Welsh Fire, Will finished the innings on 65 not-out.

As well as thriving on cricket’s biggest stage, Will also continues to set a great example to fellow young athletes with his ambassador work for Sporting Minds UK. The charity works to provide support to young athletes facing mental health struggles. HCL Bank House have committed to donate £1 for every run scored by Will in ‘The Hundred’.

We are delighted to support Will on his journey through professional sport and wish him all the very best for a busy end to the cricket season!
